How Hypnotherapy Helped Eliminate a 15-Year Fear of Flying

Fear of flying - particularly turbulence - is something many people silently struggle with. For some, it becomes progressively worse over time, limiting both personal and professional opportunities.

Recently, I worked with a client who had experienced exactly this. Over a period of 15 years, their fear of turbulence had intensified to the point where flying frequently for work and leisure became increasingly distressing.

Despite trying various ways to manage the anxiety, nothing had resolved the root of the issue. That’s when they decided to try hypnotherapy.

The Process

We worked together over four sessions (including the initial consultation), focusing on:

  • Changing the subconscious response to turbulence

  • Reducing anticipatory anxiety

  • Building a sense of calm and control

The client approached the process with an open mind, despite never having tried hypnotherapy before.

The Result

Shortly after completing the sessions, the client travelled long-haul, and encountered significant turbulence. Previously, this would have been a highly distressing experience. Instead, their reaction was completely different. In their words:

“The transformation was unbelievable… it has completely eradicated my fear.”

What once triggered fear was now simply uncomfortable, and even mildly frustrating rather than overwhelming.

What This Shows

Fear responses are learned, and importantly, they can be unlearned. Hypnotherapy works by addressing the subconscious patterns driving that fear, allowing for lasting change rather than temporary coping strategies.

If You’re Struggling with Flying Anxiety

You’re not alone, and the great news is that you don’t have to manage it forever! Change can happen more quickly than you might expect. Your dreams of enjoying going on holiday with friends, family or a loved one, or finally being able to relax on a work trip, could finally be realised.
